When I started IPSC in 2010 there was no formal induction process at the club I joined. I arrived eager to participate but quickly discovered that many of the sport's expectations were simply assumed to be common knowledge. Although I was carrying my 1911 safely in a closed holster, it was considered incorrect by IPSC standards because it was loaded and in a holster that did not meet the requirements. Unfortunately, nobody had explained these requirements beforehand.

I was then placed straight into a club match after helping build the stages. Fortunately, I enjoyed the experience and stayed with the sport, but I understand how intimidating and discouraging that first experience can be for many new shooters.

Today IPSC is far more welcoming than it was years ago. However, there is still a need for structured introductory training particularly for juniors, ladies, and first-time competitors, to provide a safe, supportive environment before attending their first club match.

The purpose of this training is as follows:

1.      Introduce new shooters to IPSC in a safe, structured and non-intimidating environment.

2.      Develop safe firearm handling habits that comply with IPSC rules.

3.      Familiarise participants with IPSC range commands, match procedures and safety expectations.

4.      Build confidence before attending a club match.

5.      Promote participation in IPSC without requiring an immediate club membership commitment.

Duration of course: +/- 4 Hours

Number of Rounds: 100
